Quidditch is the magical sport played at Hogwarts in J.K. Rowling’s books.
Quidditch is played by two teams flying on broomsticks. Each team has seven players: three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker. The sport uses four balls, including the Quaffle, two Bludgers, and the Golden Snitch.
Harry Potter becomes Gryffindor’s Seeker, the player responsible for catching the Golden Snitch. Catching it usually ends the match and awards 150 points, although the team with the higher score wins. This scoring rule is why a team can catch the Snitch and still lose. Rowling has said the name was inspired partly by the word “quaffle” and by the game’s role as a fictional sport, but the published books provide the rules used by readers and adaptations.
