The machine used to relive ancestors’ memories in Assassin’s Creed is called the Animus. It allows a user to access genetic memories inherited through their family line and experience them as an interactive simulation.
The Animus is central to the series’ modern-day framework. In the first game, Desmond Miles is forced to use an Animus by Abstergo Industries, the modern corporation connected to the Templar Order.
Although the device presents historical experiences, the games explain that it does not literally send users into the past. Instead, it interprets genetic memories and reconstructs them through technology. This distinction separates the Animus from ordinary time travel.
The Helix is another fictional Abstergo product, especially prominent in later games, but it is a broader entertainment platform rather than the original term for the memory machine. Eagle Vision is an ability used within the simulations, not a device.
