The lost city sought in Rise of the Tomb Raider is Kitezh.
Kitezh is a legendary Russian city that forms the archaeological focus of Lara Croft’s expedition in the game. Lara travels to Siberia while following clues about the Divine Source, an artifact believed to grant immortality, and the city that supposedly protects it.
The game combines the fictionalized legend of Kitezh with real-world Siberian settings and historical themes. Lara’s search brings her into conflict with Trinity, whose leader Konstantin is determined to seize the Divine Source for the organization.
Kitezh is easy to confuse with other Tomb Raider locations. Yamatai is the island setting of the 2013 reboot, while Paititi is a major location in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Atlantis belongs to the mythology of the original 1996 game.
