London's New Year's Eve fireworks are centered around the London Eye.
The London Eye is a giant observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames. Its position opposite Westminster provides a prominent focal point for London's televised midnight fireworks, which are launched from locations along the river and around the wheel.
The wheel opened to the public in 2000 as part of millennium celebrations and was originally known as the Millennium Wheel. It is frequently confused with Big Ben because the clock tower's midnight chimes are also used in broadcasts. Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell inside the Elizabeth Tower, not the main fireworks location. London's fireworks tradition and the London Eye are thus related visually, but they are separate landmarks and symbols.
