The little girl who wants Nemo is named Darla.

Darla is the rambunctious young niece of dentist Philip Sherman, whose office aquarium holds Nemo and the other Tank Gang fish. Sherman plans to give Nemo to Darla as a pet, alarming the aquarium residents because she has a reputation for killing her fish through rough handling and neglect.

The Tank Gang therefore treats Darla’s visit as an emergency. Gill devises a plan to clog the tank’s filter so Sherman will remove the fish and place them in bags. Nemo’s attempt nearly kills him, but the plan later succeeds well enough for the tank to become coated in green algae.

When Darla arrives, Nemo plays dead to avoid being taken home. Sherman believes Nemo has died, but Gill helps him escape through the sink drain. Darla’s entrance is also a memorable film reference: the music accompanying her appearance uses Bernard Herrmann’s theme from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film Psycho. Darla is voiced by LuLu Ebeling in Finding Nemo.
