Aslan is the lion who rules Narnia in C.S. Lewis’s series.
Aslan appears throughout The Chronicles of Narnia as a powerful creator, king, guide, and protector. He is introduced in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, where the Pevensie children learn that his return is connected with the end of the White Witch’s winter rule.
The name “Aslan” comes from the Turkish word for “lion.” Lewis’s depiction of the character has strong Christian symbolism, but Aslan remains a character within the fantasy world of Narnia rather than a literal historical figure.
Other major Narnian characters can be confused with him. Tumnus is a faun, Reepicheep is a talking mouse, and Puddleglum is a marsh-wiggle. None holds Aslan’s role as Narnia’s central lion ruler.
