Quenya is the language J.R.R. Tolkien created for many of the Elves of Middle-earth.
Tolkien developed Quenya as part of his extensive invented-language work. Its sound and structure were strongly influenced by languages including Finnish, and he treated it as an ancient, prestigious Elvish language in his mythology.
In Tolkien’s linguistic history, Quenya was associated especially with the Ñoldor and other Eldar who had lived in Aman. In Middle-earth it was often used in formal, historical, or poetic contexts rather than as the everyday speech of all Elves.
Sindarin is the most important neighboring term and a common mix-up. Sindarin was another Elvish language, widely used in Middle-earth. Adûnaic belonged to the Men of Númenor, while Khuzdul was the secret language of the Dwarves.
