The 1988 album by Keith Richards and the X-Pensive Winos is titled Talk Is Cheap.
Talk Is Cheap was Keith Richards’ first solo studio album and appeared while the Rolling Stones were not actively touring. Richards recorded it with a group of musicians he called the X-Pensive Winos, including guitarist Waddy Wachtel, bassist Charley Drayton and drummer Steve Jordan. The album also featured guest appearances from artists such as Mick Taylor and Sarah Dash.
The record is notable because it gave Richards room to explore a looser, roots-oriented sound outside the Rolling Stones’ usual structure. Songs such as “Take It So Hard,” “Struggle” and “Make No Mistake” helped establish the album as a substantial solo statement rather than a side-project novelty.
