The British series Dragon's Den is based on the Japanese television format Money Tigers.
Money Tigers was the original Japanese business-pitch programme that inspired the broader Dragons' Den format. The central concept was later adapted in multiple countries, with entrepreneurs presenting companies or ideas to a panel of wealthy investors in the hope of securing finance.
The format is known under different titles around the world. Shark Tank is the best-known American adaptation, while Dragon's Den is used in several other territories. These programmes share the basic investment premise but have different local presenters, investors, editing styles and broadcasting histories.
The title Money Tigers is sometimes confused with the names of later adaptations because the panel members are called dragons in many versions and sharks in the American one. The important distinction is that Money Tigers is the Japanese source format, while Dragon's Den is the title used by the British adaptation.
