What is the name of the inn where Frodo meets Aragorn in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings?

The story behind the answer

The inn where Frodo meets Aragorn in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings is The Prancing Pony.

The Prancing Pony stands in Bree, a settlement where Hobbits and Men live together. In The Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin stay there while travelling east from the Shire. Frodo uses the name Underhill at the inn.

The mysterious ranger known as Strider is also present. He is later revealed to be Aragorn, heir of Isildur and a central member of the Fellowship. The innkeeper, Barliman Butterbur, plays an important part in the events surrounding the Hobbits’ stay.

The Prancing Pony is not the same as the Green Dragon, an inn in Hobbiton associated with local Hobbits. Bree’s inn became one of the best-known meeting places in Tolkien’s fictional geography.
