What is the name of the hobbit who owns Bag End in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit?
Answer
Bilbo Baggins
Answer
Bilbo Baggins
Bilbo Baggins owns Bag End in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Bag End is his comfortable hobbit-hole in Hobbiton, within the Shire.
Bilbo begins the novel as a respectable, comfort-loving hobbit whose life changes when Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive at his home. He joins their journey to the Lonely Mountain, where the dragon Smaug has taken the dwarves’ treasure.
During the adventure, Bilbo finds a mysterious ring in the Misty Mountains after meeting Gollum. That ring later becomes the One Ring at the center of The Lord of the Rings, although The Hobbit originally presents the discovery differently from the later expanded mythology.
Bilbo is Frodo’s older cousin and guardian, not the same character. Frodo later inherits Bag End and the ring, making Bilbo’s home an important link between Tolkien’s two major novels.
