What is the name of the hobbit who inherits Bilbo Baggins’s Ring in J.R.R. Tolkien’s stories?

The story behind the answer

Frodo Baggins is the hobbit who inherits Bilbo Baggins’s Ring in J.R.R. Tolkien’s stories.

Bilbo gives Frodo the Ring and leaves the Shire at the beginning of The Lord of the Rings. The wizard Gandalf later explains that the seemingly magical ring is the One Ring, created by Sauron and capable of helping its maker dominate Middle-earth.

Frodo accepts the task of carrying the Ring to Rivendell and ultimately to Mount Doom. He travels with the Fellowship and later continues the quest with Samwise Gamgee after the Fellowship breaks apart.

Merry, Pippin, and Sam are also important hobbits, but none inherits the Ring from Bilbo. Frodo is Bilbo’s cousin and adopted heir in the Shire’s family-centered social world.
