The hobbit who carries the One Ring in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings is Frodo Baggins.
Frodo inherits the Ring from his uncle Bilbo, who found it during the events of The Hobbit. The wizard Gandalf discovers that Bilbo’s mysterious ring is actually the One Ring, created by Sauron to control the other Rings of Power. Because the Ring is dangerous in the Shire, Frodo leaves home with it.
Frodo’s journey takes him from Hobbiton to Rivendell, through Moria and Lothlórien, and eventually to Mordor. Samwise Gamgee becomes his closest companion during the quest. Although Frodo is brave and determined, the Ring gradually exhausts and corrupts him.
A common mix-up is confusing Frodo with Bilbo, the earlier Ring-bearer, or with Sam, who helps Frodo carry the burden but is not the Ring’s principal bearer. Frodo’s story is central to Tolkien’s three-volume novel.
