What is the name of the hobbit village in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth?

The story behind the answer

Hobbiton is the hobbit village in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth.

It lies in the Shire, a settled region inhabited by hobbits. Bilbo Baggins and Frodo Baggins live at Bag End, a comfortable smial on the Hill overlooking Hobbiton. The village appears prominently in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Hobbiton is often mixed up with the wider Shire or with nearby places such as Bywater and Michel Delving. The Shire is the country; Hobbiton is a village within it. Tolkien’s detailed descriptions of lanes, gardens, inns, and hobbit-holes help make the location one of the most recognizable places in his fiction.
