What is the name of the heroine in Persuasion? The heroine of Jane Austen’s Persuasion is Anne Elliot.

Anne is the middle daughter of Sir Walter Elliot, a vain and financially irresponsible baronet. At the beginning of the novel, she is 27 and still unmarried after being persuaded years earlier to reject Captain Frederick Wentworth, the man she loved. Her decision was shaped largely by Lady Russell, who considered Wentworth’s lack of fortune and social rank a serious obstacle.

When Wentworth returns after earning wealth and distinction in the Royal Navy, Anne must confront both her lingering feelings and his resentment. Unlike several of Austen’s younger, more impulsive heroines, Anne is reflective, emotionally mature, and perceptive. The story’s central tension concerns whether their lost relationship can be renewed.

Persuasion was Austen’s sixth and final completed novel. It was published posthumously in 1817, alongside Northanger Abbey. Fanny Price, Emma Woodhouse, and Elizabeth Bennet are heroines of other Austen novels.
