The glass-walled house designed by Philip Johnson in New Canaan, Connecticut, is the Glass House.
Johnson designed the residence as his weekend home, and it was built in 1948–49 on an estate overlooking a pond. Its transparent walls, charcoal-painted steel frame, open plan, and brick floor made it a landmark of mid-century modern architecture.
The design was strongly influenced by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, particularly the Farnsworth House, but Johnson gave his building a darker palette and a more carefully staged relationship with the surrounding landscape. A brick cylinder containing the bathroom is the only major element that rises from floor to ceiling inside the otherwise open room.
The Glass House later became the centrepiece of a larger estate containing galleries, pavilions, and other unusual structures by Johnson. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1997 and opened for public tours in 2007. The Farnsworth House is a related comparison, not the answer to this question.
