What is the name of the former Assassin who becomes the protagonist of Assassin's Creed Rogue?

The story behind the answer

Shay Patrick Cormac is the former Assassin who becomes the protagonist of Assassin's Creed Rogue.

Shay begins the game as a member of the Colonial Brotherhood during the eighteenth century. After a disastrous mission and a growing disagreement with the Assassins' methods, he defects to the Templars. The story then presents the series' familiar conflict from the opposing side, with Shay hunting former allies.

Rogue takes place mainly in the North Atlantic, the River Valley, and New York during the Seven Years' War. Shay commands the Morrigan, a fast ship equipped for icy waters, and uses new tools such as a puckle gun and an air rifle during exploration and combat.

Shay is connected to the Kenway family and appears in the wider narrative linking Assassin's Creed III, Black Flag, and Unity. He is not Haytham Kenway, although both characters fight for the Templars at different points in the series.
