Tokyo is the first World Grand Prix city shown in Pixar's Cars 2.
After being invited to compete in the international World Grand Prix, Lightning McQueen travels to Tokyo with Mater and the rest of his team. The Tokyo race introduces the sequel's global setting and places the characters in a neon-lit Japanese city filled with landmarks, crowded streets and advanced technology.
The World Grand Prix then moves to other major locations, including Porto Corsa in Italy and London in the United Kingdom. The three-race structure allows Cars 2 to combine a racing story with an international spy plot involving Mater.
Tokyo is sometimes confused with the film's later locations because the races are promoted together as one championship. It is specifically the opening competition, while Porto Corsa hosts the second race and London hosts the finale. The film was released in 2011 and was directed by John Lasseter and Brad Lewis.
