What is the name of the first published Narnia novel by C.S. Lewis?

The first published Narnia novel by C.S. Lewis is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It was published in 1950 and introduces the fictional land of Narnia through the four Pevensie children.

The story begins when Lucy Pevensie enters Narnia through a wardrobe while staying in a country house during the Second World War. She later returns with Edmund, Susan, and Peter, encountering the White Witch and the talking lion who leads the resistance against her.

The publication order and the internal chronological order of the Narnia books differ. The Magician’s Nephew is set earlier in Narnian history, but it was published sixth, in 1955. That distinction explains why readers sometimes give a different title when asked for the first Narnia story.
