Mater and the Ghostlight
Answer
Mater and the Ghostlight
Mater and the Ghostlight is the first Pixar short featuring Mater from Cars.
The short was released in 2006 as an extra on the home-video edition of Cars. It takes place in Radiator Springs and follows the residents as they play a prank on Mater after he frightens them with ghost stories. The title refers to a mysterious blue light associated with local legend.
Mater and the Ghostlight expands the world of the feature film without changing its main setting or characters. It includes Lightning McQueen, Doc Hudson, Sally Carrera, and other residents of Radiator Springs. Larry the Cable Guy again provides Mater’s voice.
The short is separate from the later Mater’s Tall Tales episodes, which present exaggerated adventures involving subjects such as spies, astronauts, and monster trucks. It is also distinct from Tokyo Mater, the first theatrical Cars short, which was released with Bolt in 2008. These titles are sometimes confused because both are Mater-centered.
