Answer
The Eye of the World
The first novel in Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series is The Eye of the World. Tor Books published it in the United States on 15 January 1990, introducing the broad setting and principal characters of Jordan’s epic fantasy.
The story begins in the village of Emond’s Field in the Two Rivers. Rand al’Thor, Perrin Aybara, Mat Cauthon, Egwene al’Vere, and several companions leave home after danger arrives from the Shadow. Their journey expands into a conflict involving the Dragon Reborn and the fate of the world.
The title refers to the Eye of the World, a powerful, purified pool of saidin located in the Blight. The novel also establishes Jordan’s system of channeling and the struggle between the forces of Light and Shadow.
The series ultimately comprised 14 main novels. Brandon Sanderson completed the final three after Jordan’s death, using notes and instructions left by Jordan.
