What is the name of the first Nexus smartphone?

The story behind the answer

The first Nexus smartphone was called the Nexus One.

The Nexus One was an Android smartphone designed by Google and manufactured by HTC. It became available in January 2010 and launched Google’s Nexus phone program, which used selected hardware partners to showcase an unmodified or lightly customized version of Android.

The phone was based on HTC’s hardware and was known internally by the codename HTC Passion. Google sold it directly online in an unlocked form, including versions intended for T-Mobile and AT&T networks in the United States. Its software features included voice-to-text transcription, turn-by-turn navigation, and noise reduction using an additional microphone.

Later Nexus models created several easy mix-ups. The Nexus S followed the Nexus One, the Galaxy Nexus was made by Samsung, and the Nexus 4 arrived later through a partnership with LG. The Nexus program eventually gave way to Google’s Pixel line, but the Nexus One remains the starting point for Google’s branded smartphone history.
