What is the name of Google's headquarters complex?

The story behind the answer

What is the name of Google's headquarters complex? The answer is Googleplex.

The Googleplex is Google's corporate headquarters complex at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway in Mountain View, California. It also serves as a headquarters complex for Alphabet, Google's parent company. The campus is part of the larger technology center commonly known as Silicon Valley.

The name is a wordplay combining “Google” with “complex.” It also echoes “googolplex,” the mathematical term for 10 raised to the power of a googol. That pun is why Googolplex appears as a tempting wrong option, even though it is not the name of Google's headquarters.

Google began leasing the former Silicon Graphics facilities in 2003 and completed a major interior redesign soon afterward. The company purchased several properties in the complex in 2006. The Mountain View site is often called the Google campus, but “Googleplex” is the specific, canonical name for the headquarters complex. Google has also developed other major campuses, including Bay View near NASA's Ames Research Center, which should not be confused with the original Googleplex.
