Hogsmeade is the fictional village near Hogwarts visited by Harry Potter.
Hogsmeade is described as the only entirely non-Muggle settlement in Britain. Hogwarts students in their third year and above may visit it on approved weekends, provided they have signed permission. Harry first visits the village during his third year, although he initially lacks permission and uses a secret passage to enter.
The village contains several important locations, including Honeydukes sweetshop, Zonko’s Joke Shop, the Three Broomsticks Inn, and the Hog’s Head Inn. Butterbeer is especially associated with visits to Hogsmeade. The Three Broomsticks is run by Madam Rosmerta.
Hogsmeade is different from Diagon Alley, the London shopping street for the wizarding community. It is also different from Godric’s Hollow, a village where Harry’s parents lived and where major events occur. These locations are all fictional settings in Rowling’s wizarding world but serve distinct purposes.
