The fictional school created by J.K. Rowling for young witches and wizards is Hogwarts.
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the main magical school in the Harry Potter series. It is located in a remote Scottish setting and is concealed from the non-magical population, whom the books call Muggles. Students generally begin at age eleven and study there for seven years.
The school is divided into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. A Sorting Hat assigns new students to houses, which function as living and learning communities. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger are placed in Gryffindor.
Hogwarts is often confused with other schools in Rowling’s wider wizarding world. Durmstrang and Beauxbatons appear in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, while Ilvermorny is a North American school described in later world-building.
