Drive Shaft is the fictional band whose bassist was Charlie Pace in Lost.
Charlie’s pre-island life involved music, touring, and a troubled relationship with his older brother Liam. Drive Shaft achieved a novelty hit called “You All Everybody,” which appears repeatedly in Charlie’s flashbacks and on recordings found by the survivors.
The band’s history gives Charlie a recognizable identity beyond his addiction and survival skills. Its name and song are part of the show’s recurring fictional pop culture, much like Oceanic Airlines and the albums seen in various flashbacks.
Drive Shaft is sometimes mistaken for a real band because the series presents its music in a convincing way. It is fictional, and Dominic Monaghan performed Charlie within the show’s story rather than portraying a member of an actual touring group.
