The exterminator protagonist in Donkey Kong 3 is named Stanley.
Stanley is a greenhouse worker who appears in the 1983 arcade game Donkey Kong 3. When Donkey Kong invades his garden and causes insects to swarm, Stanley fights back with a powerful sprayer. The player’s goal is to drive Donkey Kong upward while protecting the flowers from pests.
This role makes Stanley unusual in the early Donkey Kong series. The original arcade game established Mario as the hero, while Donkey Kong Jr. made Donkey Kong the playable character. Donkey Kong 3 instead introduced a new human protagonist whose occupation directly explains the game’s insecticide-based gameplay.
Stanley is sometimes confused with Mario because both are human Nintendo heroes and Donkey Kong opponents. They are separate characters, however. Stanley’s later appearances were limited compared with Mario’s, although he returned in cameo and supporting roles in some later Nintendo releases.
