The Elvish realm ruled by Galadriel in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings is Lothlórien.
Lothlórien lies between the Misty Mountains and the River Anduin. Galadriel rules it with Celeborn, and the Fellowship reaches the realm after escaping Moria. The Elves shelter the travelers, provide supplies, and give them boats for the journey down the Anduin.
The land is especially associated with the mallorn trees, whose golden leaves and flowers give it a distinctive appearance. Galadriel’s mirror, a basin of water that shows possible visions, is another famous feature of the realm. Before departing, the Fellowship receives gifts from Galadriel, including the light of Eärendil in a phial given to Frodo.
Lothlórien is distinct from Rivendell, where Elrond lives, and from Doriath, an important Elven kingdom of the First Age. The name is also written Lórien or Laurelindórenan in Tolkien’s texts.
