What is the name of the E Street Band drummer?
Answer
Max Weinberg
Answer
Max Weinberg
The name of the E Street Band drummer is Max Weinberg. He joined Bruce Springsteen's band in 1974 and became one of its most recognizable members, known for his steady, powerful drumming and the nickname “Mighty Max.”
Weinberg got the job after answering a newspaper advertisement for a drummer. He auditioned for Springsteen and the band in August 1974, shortly after previous drummer Ernest “Boom” Carter departed. His first public performance with the E Street Band took place on September 19, 1974.
He played on major Springsteen albums including Born to Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River, Born in the U.S.A., and The Rising. A common mix-up is confusing Max Weinberg with his son Jay Weinberg, who temporarily substituted for him during some Springsteen performances and later became known for playing with Slipknot.
Weinberg also became a television bandleader, leading the Max Weinberg 7 on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Despite that second career, he continued touring and recording with Springsteen.
