What is the name of the dragon who serves Morgoth in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Children of Húrin?

The story behind the answer

Glaurung is the dragon who serves Morgoth in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Children of Húrin.

Glaurung is presented as the first of the great dragons bred by Morgoth, the chief enemy of the Elves and Men during the First Age. He is powerful, intelligent, and capable of using speech to deceive and dominate others.

His most important role is in the tragic story of Túrin Turambar. Glaurung manipulates Túrin and his sister Nienor, helping to bring about one of Tolkien’s darkest family tragedies.

Glaurung is distinct from Smaug, the dragon in The Hobbit, and Ancalagon the Black, another mighty dragon who appears in the history of the First Age. These dragons belong to different episodes and ages of Tolkien’s mythology.
