Luke Skywalker grew up on the desert planet Tatooine.
In the original Star Wars film, Luke lives with his aunt and uncle, Beru and Owen Lars, at a moisture farm on Tatooine. The planet’s harsh desert environment, twin suns, and remote settlements establish Luke’s longing to leave home and explore the wider galaxy.
Tatooine is more than Luke’s childhood setting: it is also the birthplace and childhood home of his father, Anakin Skywalker, who later becomes Darth Vader. Anakin’s early life is shown in The Phantom Menace, particularly around the spaceport city of Mos Espa.
The planet is often confused with Hoth, the frozen world featured in The Empire Strikes Back, or Coruscant, the urban capital of the Galactic Republic and later Empire. Tatooine is known for places such as Mos Eisley, Anchorhead, and Jabba the Hutt’s palace.
