Answer
Milan–San Remo
Answer
Milan–San Remo
The cycling race held between Milan and San Remo is Milan–San Remo.
Known in Italian as Milano–Sanremo, the race runs from the industrial city of Milan to Sanremo on the Ligurian coast. It is one of cycling’s five Monuments, the sport’s most prestigious one-day classics. At roughly 290 kilometres in modern editions, it is also the longest major one-day race on the professional calendar.
The event was first held in 1907 and is traditionally raced in March. Its profile often favours sprinters who can survive the climbs, although attackers can win by escaping on the final ascent or on the descent toward the coast. The Cipressa and Poggio are especially important late-race climbs.
Milan–San Remo is often nicknamed La Primavera, meaning “The Spring,” but that nickname is deliberately not used as the answer here. It should also not be confused with the autumn Monument Giro di Lombardia, which takes place around northern Italy’s lakes and hills.
