What is the name of the creator of The West Wing?

The story behind the answer

What is the name of the creator of The West Wing? Aaron Sorkin created it.

Sorkin developed the series after writing the screenplay for the 1995 film The American President. That film’s White House setting, combined with unused story ideas and a suggestion from producer Akiva Goldsman, helped inspire a television drama focused on presidential staff and the pressures of governing.

Sorkin wrote nearly every episode during the first four seasons and established the show’s signature style: rapid, layered dialogue, ethical debates, and long tracking shots known as “walk and talks.” He also drew on research into government and politics to give fictional policy discussions a convincing institutional texture.

The show continued after Sorkin and executive producer Thomas Schlamme left near the end of season four. John Wells then became the principal creative force. That change is why viewers sometimes credit Wells or Thomas Schlamme with creating the series, but Sorkin remains its creator and original leading writer.
