What is the name of the Chiquita banana mascot?

The story behind the answer

The Chiquita banana mascot is named Miss Chiquita.

The character was created in 1944 by cartoonist Dik Browne, who later became known for the comic strips Hi and Lois and Hägar the Horrible. Miss Chiquita originally appeared as an animated banana wearing a woman’s dress and legs, drawing on the tropical advertising imagery popular at the time.

The mascot became closely associated with Chiquita’s branding and was often shown wearing a fruit hat. Patti Clayton provided the original voice in 1944; later voices included Elsa Miranda, June Valli and Monica Lewis. The character’s presentation changed over time as advertising conventions and cultural attitudes evolved.

The banana character was redesigned as a human figure in 1987 by animator Oscar Grillo. Chiquita began placing peel-off stickers on bananas in 1963, and the brand still uses stickers as a recognizable visual marker. “Chiquita Annie” and “Banana Lady” are plausible-sounding inventions, not the mascot’s established name.
