What is the name of the character played by Tracy Morgan on 30 Rock?

The character played by Tracy Morgan on 30 Rock is Tracy Jordan. He is the unpredictable movie star recruited to become the lead performer on TGS, the fictional NBC sketch show at the center of the series.

Tracy Jordan is deliberately written as a heightened, fictional version of Morgan’s public comic persona. In the pilot, network executive Jack Donaghy pressures head writer Liz Lemon to hire Tracy, then renames The Girlie Show as TGS with Tracy Jordan. That decision creates the central comic conflict between Tracy, Liz, Jenna Maroney, and the network.

The name is sometimes confused with Tracy Morgan because the actor and character share the first name, but “Tracy Morgan” is the performer and “Tracy Jordan” is the fictional character. The role was part of the main cast throughout the original 2006–2013 run and returned in the 2020 reunion special.
