What is the name of the character played by Christoph Waltz in Django Unchained?

Christoph Waltz plays Dr. King Schultz in Django Unchained.

Schultz is a German bounty hunter who encounters Django while searching for the wanted Brittle brothers. He frees Django and offers to train him as a bounty hunter in exchange for help identifying his targets.

The character is notable for combining refined manners with lethal skill. Schultz eventually becomes Django’s ally in the effort to rescue Broomhilda from Calvin Candie’s plantation. His title, “Dr.,” reflects his former profession as a dentist, which also explains the distinctive dental-wagon imagery associated with him.

A common mix-up is with Waltz’s other famous Tarantino role, Colonel Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds. Waltz won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for playing Schultz, making it his second Oscar for a Tarantino film.
