What is the name of the candy company that manufactures Peeps?
Answer
Just Born
Answer
Just Born
The candy company that manufactures Peeps is Just Born. The company produces the marshmallow treats under the Peeps brand, along with candies such as Mike and Ike and Hot Tamales.
Peeps began with the R. E. Rodda Candy Company, which sold marshmallow chicks by 1948. Just Born acquired Rodda in 1953 and took over the Peeps line. In 1954, Bob Born helped mechanize production, replacing the slow process of shaping each chick by hand and making large-scale distribution possible.
The original Peeps were yellow marshmallow chicks associated mainly with Easter. The brand later expanded into bunnies, seasonal shapes, different colors and flavors, and year-round products such as Peeps Minis, introduced in 2014. That expansion is why “Peeps” now refers to a broad candy brand rather than only Easter chicks.
A common mix-up is crediting Rodda as the current manufacturer. Rodda created the early version, but Just Born has owned and produced Peeps since 1953.
