Answer
Øresund Bridge
Answer
Øresund Bridge
The Øresund Bridge links Copenhagen in Denmark with Malmö in Sweden.
The combined bridge-and-tunnel crossing opened on 1 July 2000. It crosses the Øresund strait, connecting the Danish island of Zealand with the Swedish province of Scania. The crossing includes a cable-stayed bridge, an artificial island called Peberholm, and the Drogden Tunnel.
The bridge section is about 7.8 kilometres long, while the full fixed link is about 15.9 kilometres. The design uses a tunnel near the Danish side so aircraft can continue using Copenhagen Airport and ships can pass through the strait without a bridge obstructing the main navigation channel.
The crossing carries both road traffic and trains. It helped create the Øresund Region, a closely connected cross-border area whose economy and daily commuting link eastern Denmark with southern Sweden. The Danish and Swedish spellings of the strait’s name are Øresund and Öresund.
