Doc Hudson is the blue race car who became Radiator Springs’ doctor in Pixar’s Cars.
Doc is also the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, a retired racing champion whose earlier career included three Piston Cup victories. After a serious crash, he was forced out of racing and became embittered when the racing world moved on without him. He later settled in Radiator Springs and served as its physician and judge.
When Lightning McQueen arrives, Doc recognizes the young racer’s arrogance and initially refuses to help him. Their relationship changes after McQueen learns more about Doc’s past and receives guidance from him. Doc eventually becomes McQueen’s crew chief and mentor, linking the new racer to the traditions of the older generation.
Doc’s design is based on the real Hudson Hornet, a car associated with early stock-car racing success. His voice was performed by Paul Newman. Strip Weathers, known as The King, is another veteran racer, but he is not Radiator Springs’ doctor.
