What is the name of the Assassin's Creed game starring Edward Kenway as its pirate protagonist?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is the Assassin's Creed game starring Edward Kenway as its pirate protagonist.

Edward Kenway is a Welsh privateer and pirate who becomes entangled in the Assassin-Templar conflict during the Golden Age of Piracy. The game is set primarily in the Caribbean in the early eighteenth century and features ports and islands inspired by places such as Havana, Nassau, and Kingston.

Edward is the grandfather of Connor Kenway from Assassin's Creed III and the father of Haytham Kenway. This family connection makes Black Flag part of the series' connected Kenway saga, even though its pirate adventure has a different tone from Connor's revolutionary story.

Released in 2013, Black Flag expanded ship-based exploration and naval combat into a major part of the experience. Edward is sometimes confused with Shay Cormac because both are associated with sailing and eighteenth-century settings, but Shay is the protagonist of Assassin's Creed Rogue.
