Roland is the artificial intelligence that controls the UNSC Infinity in Halo 5: Guardians.
Roland is the Infinity’s onboard AI and appears as a distinct personality from Cortana. He assists the ship’s crew and coordinates operations aboard the UNSC Infinity, the largest and most advanced human warship shown in the mainline games at that point. His interactions provide a more conversational and sometimes humorous contrast to the military setting.
Cortana is the AI most closely associated with Master Chief, but she is not the Infinity’s regular shipboard intelligence in Halo 5. Serina serves as the AI aboard the Spirit of Fire in Halo Wars, while Black-Box is a separate intelligence from the expanded Halo fiction. These characters are therefore plausible but incorrect alternatives.
Halo 5’s story takes place after the events of Halo 4 and follows both Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris. Roland’s presence helps establish the Infinity as a functioning command ship rather than merely a backdrop for missions.
