What is the name of the 18th hole at the Old Course, St Andrews?
Answer
Tom Morris
Answer
Tom Morris
The 18th hole at the Old Course in St Andrews is named Tom Morris.
The finishing hole is a par four known as Tom Morris, named in honour of Old Tom Morris, the pioneering Scottish golfer, greenkeeper and course designer. Morris won The Open four times and spent much of his career associated with St Andrews, where he helped shape the Old Course and influenced the development of modern golf.
The hole measures roughly 357 yards on the championship layout and plays back toward the town and the distinctive clubhouse. Unlike the famous 17th hole, the Road Hole, the 18th is relatively open and does not have a separate bunker name that serves as its official hole title. The wide fairway and large double green make it visually approachable, although pressure can still make the final approach difficult.
Visitors often confuse the hole name with nearby landmarks. The Swilcan Burn crosses the front part of the course, while the Swilcan Bridge sits near the first and 18th fairways. The Hell Bunker belongs to the 14th hole, and the Road Hole is the 17th.
