Tesla Semi is the name of Tesla’s all-electric tractor unit designed for freight transport.
Tesla unveiled the Semi in November 2017 as a battery-electric Class 8 truck. Unlike a pickup such as Cybertruck, the Semi is built to pull a separate trailer and serve commercial logistics operations.
The vehicle was designed around large battery packs, aerodynamic shaping, and electric motors intended to reduce operating costs compared with diesel trucks. Tesla began delivering production Semis to customers in the 2020s.
The Semi is sometimes confused with the Roadster because both are Tesla vehicles announced during the company’s expansion beyond its early sedan lineup. Their purposes are entirely different: the Roadster is a sports car, while the Semi is a heavy-duty commercial vehicle.
