What is the name of Sweden’s royal palace in central Stockholm?
Answer
Stockholm Palace
Answer
Stockholm Palace
Stockholm Palace is Sweden’s royal palace in central Stockholm. It stands on Stadsholmen, the island that forms part of the city’s historic Gamla stan district.
The present palace was built after the medieval Tre Kronor castle was destroyed by fire in 1697. Designed principally by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger, the new building was constructed in the Baroque style and completed in the eighteenth century. It has more than 600 rooms and remains a working royal residence and ceremonial venue.
Stockholm Palace is not the same place as Drottningholm Palace, which is the private residence of Sweden’s king and queen and lies outside central Stockholm. Visitors can tour state apartments, museums, and the Royal Chapel. The palace also hosts official receptions and ceremonies, although members of the royal family do not use it as their everyday home.
