Mitchum is Logan Huntzberger’s father and a powerful newspaper executive. He arranges Rory’s internship at the Stamford Eagle Gazette, where she works under his supervision and receives a blunt assessment of her journalistic potential.

The experience becomes a major turning point for Rory. Mitchum tells her that she does not have what it takes to be a reporter, and Rory temporarily abandons Yale after taking the criticism very seriously.
