Reddit’s time-traveling alien mascot is named Snoo.
Snoo is the small alien in Reddit’s logo, recognizable by its oval head, antenna, and simple expressive face. The mascot was created in 2005 by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian while he was a student at the University of Virginia. Ohanian originally imagined a name based on “S'new,” a play on “What’s new?” before the shorter form Snoo became standard.
The character’s alien identity fits Reddit’s early idea of presenting fresh links and conversations from across the internet. Snoo is intentionally genderless, which allows Reddit and individual communities to redesign the character for holidays, events, causes, and subreddit themes.
Zuck is associated with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, not Reddit. Digby and Momo are unrelated alternatives. Another common misunderstanding is treating Snoo as only a static logo: Reddit uses customized versions of the mascot throughout its site, branding, and community artwork.
