Radiohead’s fourth album, released in 2000, is Kid A.
Released on October 2, 2000, Kid A followed the enormously successful OK Computer and marked a dramatic change in Radiohead’s sound. The band incorporated electronic beats, synthesizers, jazz influences, orchestral textures, and the ondes Martenot alongside their familiar guitars and drums.
The album was recorded between January 1999 and April 2000 in studios across France, Denmark, and England. Radiohead considered releasing the sessions as a double album, but instead used the remaining songs for Amnesiac, released in 2001. The two albums were recorded during the same period.
A common mix-up is assuming OK Computer was Radiohead’s fourth album; it was their third. Kid A was also unusual because the band released no conventional singles from it, relying on short animated promotional videos and internet marketing. Despite its experimental style, it debuted at number one in both the United Kingdom and the United States.
