What is the name of Paul Rudolph's Brutalist government building in Goshen, New York?

The story behind the answer

Paul Rudolph’s Brutalist government building in Goshen, New York, is the Orange County Government Center.

Rudolph designed the center in 1963, and it was completed in 1967. Located on Main Street, the complex housed Orange County officials, legislative meetings, court functions, public records, and a Department of Motor Vehicles office. Its exposed concrete and forceful geometric forms made it a distinctive example of civic Brutalism.

The building was divided by a courtyard, separating areas for the executive and legislative branches from the county court facilities. Over time, leaks, heating costs, and changing court requirements fueled criticism and proposals for replacement or demolition.

The center became especially controversial because preservationists regarded it as an important Rudolph work, while opponents viewed it as impractical and imposing. Part of the complex was demolished in 2015, making the name easy to confuse with other Brutalist civic buildings such as Boston City Hall or Dallas City Hall.
