In which year was the Brutalist tower Trellick Tower completed?

The story behind the answer

Brutalist tower Trellick Tower was completed in 1972.

Located in Kensal Town, London, Trellick Tower was designed by architect Ernő Goldfinger for the Greater London Council. It opened on 28 June 1972, after being conceived as improved social housing to replace outdated accommodation. The project followed Goldfinger’s earlier Balfron Tower in Poplar.

The 31-storey residential block is paired with a separate access tower containing lifts, stairs, and a plant room. This arrangement allowed apartments to have more efficient layouts while giving the building its distinctive profile. Its exposed concrete structure and monumental vertical form are characteristic of Brutalism.

Trellick Tower initially suffered from the poor reputation that surrounded high-rise housing in the 1970s. Later, its architectural importance was recognized, and it became a Grade II* listed building. The year 1972 is the completion or opening date; the nearby dates in the wrong options do not match the tower’s documented opening.
