What is the name of Nike’s recycled rubber material from old shoes? Nike Grind. The name Nike Grind refers to Nike’s family of recycled materials, including rubber recovered from worn footwear and other sources.

Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program collects unwanted athletic shoes and sends them for processing. A shoe can be separated into major material streams: rubber from the outsole, foam from the midsole and fibers or textiles from the upper. These materials are ground into granules and can be used in new products or sports surfaces.

Nike Grind is broader than recycled rubber alone. The collection can also include manufacturing scraps, unsellable footwear, foam, leather and textile blends. Recovered rubber has been used in running tracks, playgrounds, turf fields, basketball courts and gym flooring. That is why the term may appear in discussions of both footwear manufacturing and construction materials.
